Music Video Analysis

'break up with ur girlfriend, im bored' - Ariana Grande  At the beginning of the music video, Ariana is walking is a sassy manner which complements the catchy tone of the song. Here a slow down tracking shot is used to follow the artist as she moves away from the camera, the editing is fast paced as rapid jump cuts are used to go with the beat of the song. Within only a couple of seconds, the long shots sway out of a silhouette which could highlight her essentially 'coming out' due to the plot twist at the end being she kisses the girl, not the boy but also emphasises her sass. The low key lighting & night time setting foreshadows the dramatic narrative. Her clothing is fully black which represents her power & strength, reflecting the lyrics of wanting to take someones boyfriend because she's 'bored', this lyric removes the gravity of emotion from the song. This scene is where the couple have met Ariana at another party/event which h...

Beyoncé uses intertextuality to promote the new Lion King movie on the front page of her website as she is ‘Nala’ ( a main character) i n the film. Being on the front page the poster is the first thing the audience sees due to the fact its her biggest success this year and the image used emphasises her proudness of being in the movie. A mid shot is used of herself & the character to enhance a significant connection between the two, low key lighting is used to highlight the passionate, intense narrative of 'The Lion King'. There is a link to a 45 second trailer of the film of which she is singing throughout, which establishes an instant link between Beyonce & the film, also the new music being released from the film. By scrolling down the website, there are a endless variety of photos of Beyoncé herself & some of her husband (Jay Z). This includes photography shoots, selfies, paparazzi event photos etc, its like a collage of Beyonce's favourite moments ...

Pitch

My music video will be about two girls who have an attraction/like each other but one of the girls has a boyfriend and drama is caused when the girls see each other and begin to get along very well.  It conforms to Pop Genre music video conventions due to the fact it is performance (group dance) and narrative (breakup/love story). The aims of my music video are to entertain and encourage re-plays of the video to enhance the significant acceptance & understanding of homosexual relationships highlighted in my narrative which should engage the audience and hopefully create a positive reaction. The homosexual relationship is portrayed by two 17 year old females acting as a lesbian couple who are consistently displaying happiness after the teen drama has finished. Even though I am challenging representations, I am also conforming to some stereotypes so the teenage audience can relate to my music vid...

Target Audience

My target audience consists of female teenagers/young adults (16-25 years old) due to the fact that the song is Pop & that is what genre teens listen to the most, therefore it will be easier for them to access this music via radio stations, chart playlists on Spotify etc. Also, females may be able to relate to the scenario more than males as they tend to be fixated on the idea of love & relationships and essentially prioritise them.  Teenagers can also relate to the dancing aspect to the music video which is evidently why one of its locations is at a house party as at the age of 16+ is the prime time that teenagers begin going to parties. It conforms to the stereotypes of teen girls wanting to wear makeup & wear dresses to get the message the artist is trying to highlight across to the audience within a 3/4 minute music video. I have used a range of ethnicities within my dancing cast to emphasise diversity and that t...
