Target Audience

My target audience consists of female teenagers/young adults (16-25 years old) due to the fact that the song is Pop & that is what genre teens listen to the most, therefore it will be easier for them to access this music via radio stations, chart playlists on Spotify etc. Also, females may be able to relate to the scenario more than males as they tend to be fixated on the idea of love & relationships and essentially prioritise them.  Teenagers can also relate to the dancing aspect to the music video which is evidently why one of its locations is at a house party as at the age of 16+ is the prime time that teenagers begin going to parties. It conforms to the stereotypes of teen girls wanting to wear makeup & wear dresses to get the message the artist is trying to highlight across to the audience within a 3/4 minute music video. I have used a range of ethnicities within my dancing cast to emphasise diversity and that the idea that you can only dance if you are 'skinny

SWOT Analysis

I would like to do a music video because I really enjoyed making my 1 minute clip of Thrift Shop a couple of months ago as I was able  to gain knowledge on how to produce, direct and edit and I did it all independently. The whole process ensured me that I wanted to create more/another music video and gain more experience on how to improve my camera skills, editing, narrative ideas etc. I have gained a lot of knowledge throughout the past years about the music industry as I listen to music on a daily basis and watch new & old music videos often. Even though pop isn't my favourite genre of music, I still enjoy listening to it as its always on the radio station I listen to (Capital) therefore I think I would be able to make a high quality music video that matches the lyrics of the song and clearly establishes the message the song is trying to portray. Additionally, my friends would be willing to participate due to their extrovert personalities therefore they wouldn't mind chal

Pop Music Video Conventions Research

-        Artists usually clothed in fashionable, stylish, mainstream outfits  -        Artists portrayed as happy and content with life -        The lyrics are based around love and relationships  -        Target teens so make the songs/music videos as ‘reliable’ as possible as they are the main target audience  -        Song usually is 3-5 minutes with a consistent beat and structure -        Pop songs are guaranteed to be heard everyday as are majorly played on radio stations e.g. Capital – large audience  -        They follow a verse-chorus-verse structure and hook lines which are catchy therefore stays in the audience’s mind  -        Dance orientated  -        They stereotypically are associated with people in their teens as many people in their youth enjoy partying, clubbing, dancing, which is exactly what the purpose of pop music is for  -        Artists are expressed in a very sexual and seductive way, trying to lure the audience in, current artists chose t

Prior Research Before Planning My Video

Image
Before I could start planning my music video, i continuously went on YouTube to look for ideas & scenes that I could base the narrative side of my music video on. My main inspiration was the ' Ariana Grande - break up with your girlfriend, I'm bored ' music video as its main location is a party setting of which I want to base my music video around and the idea of the music video is that Ariana wanted him to breakup with his girlfriend so she could be with him. Therefore, this music video is perfect to study due to the similar theme and aims displayed within my music video and this one. At the end of this music video. there is a plot twist, that Ariana didn't actually want the boyfriend, she wanted the girlfriend which challenges sexuality stereotypes as no one thought that would happen, which makes the video more interesting and not like a typical love/relationship music video.  This music video also consists of incredible editing and camera work, with a huge va

Planning/Timings

Before the music starts: Darcie (artist - Delilah), Bayleigh & Hannah are scrolling through Zoe's Instagram & talking about her  e.g. "she's so pretty!" "Yeah she is but I think she's got a boyfriend!" "Thats not gonna stop me!"  (6 seconds, no music)  0.00- 0.22 = dance (5 girls) located on a graffitied/brick street with matching outfits on 0.22- 0.43 = 3 girls getting ready, close ups of the makeup they are using, them applying it, laughing/having fun, then walking down the road in formal party outfits (e.g. trousers & blazer, dresses, heals) 0.43- 1.09 = enter the party, greet everyone then Delilah (Darcie) has instant eye contact with Zoe, she's with her boyfriend - Zoe (slow motion?) 1.09-0.23 = dance  1.23- 1.44 = Delilah and Zoe begin to talk on their own, happy/laughing  1.44- 2.14 = Her boyfriend sees them flirting and walks over to them beginning to argue and Delilah walks away and leaves them to it

My Song Choice

Image
I have chosen to use the song 'Ain't My Fault' by Zara Larson because: The beat of the song fits well with the dance idea I have for the performance side of my music video due to the dance being a fast, upbeat, street dance type of dancing & is also makes it easier for me to flip between scenes and portray a narrative with fast editing/different scenes. The lyrics of the song suit my narrative of a girl admiring another girl who already has a boyfriend, and the 'sass' within the lyrics emphasises the all the drama within the narrative. The lyrics that suit the narrative adhere to the target audience of 16 year old's its at that age, teenagers begin to obsess over relationships and experience their first breakups and begin to explore different avenues therefore can relate to the song one some level.

Focus Group

I did a focus group of 7 girls and 3 boys from Year 12 at Wellington School (16-17 years) to get a general idea of what the audience like/don't like to see within Pop music videos. I asked the following questions;  1) When you think of a Pop Music Video, what comes into mind? Focal point on the artist, at least 2/3 settings, performance (majorly the artist at the front with back up dancers)  2) What is your favourite music genre? 6 0% said Pop, 20% said R&B, 20% said UK garage/grime   3) (Asked to the people who said Pop) Why do you like Pop music? Its played everywhere [radio stations] so I have just got use to listening to it all the time & learned to love it, the majority of it is upbeat and positive, its relatable  4) What are your favourite music videos & why? (most common answers)  Ariana Grande - thank u, next because its recreating a popular movie [Mean Girls] & its humorous, Camilla Cabello - Havana because its also humorous & is split between
